Development of Collaborations with Indian Institutes of Higher Education in Biotechnology
TIETAC undertook a Consultancy for the School of Contemporary Sciences, University of Abertay Dundee, Dundee, Scotland, UK.
"To identify five suitable organisations in India, which are running Undergraduate courses in Biotechnology and who would wish to articulate their courses with courses at Abertay (by suitable it is meant that the organisations can be considered to be producing, or will produce, graduates who would be equivalent to graduates from a UK University in terms of their level of intellectual training)."
The Consultancy commenced in August 2003 and by the end of September 2003, TIETAC had identified eleven Institutions in the cities prescribed in the ToRs. Of these eleven Institutions, TIETAC short-listed five Institutions – one in New Delhi/NOIDA, one in Chennai, one in Hyderabad and two in
Bangalore.
UAD has signed “Letters of Intent” to collaborate on an Articulation Programme with four of the five Institutions. The Articulation Programme envisaged will provide selected students from the Indian Institutions to pursue a Bachelors and/or Postgraduate courses in Biotechnology, Bio-informatics and Medical Biotechnology, and has a Faculty Development component to enhance the research capabilities of the Indian Institutions.
Formal preliminary MoUs have been exchanged between three institutions - in Noida, Bangalore and Hyderabad and academic activities are ongoing since June 2004. With TIETAC’s advice students have been at UAD in since September 2004.
